The world’s first Demeter-certified cosmetics based on grapes

dieNikolai is the youngest family member of Nikolaihof Wachau, Austria’s oldest winery with almost 2000 years of history. With resources of the highest calibre and a true love for nature, top quality products have been made here for centuries. For more than 45 years, the Nikolaihof has followed the anthroposophic philosophy of Rudolf Steiner, as one of the first wineries worldwide. Certified by Demeter, the products meet the world’s strictest standards in bio-dynamics. Since 2016 the youngest son of the Saahs family, Martin, has been creating the hand-crafted, Demeter-certified cosmetic brand dieNikolai using raw materials from the wine gardens in the UNESCO world heritage site of Wachau.
All the products are based on the precious grapeseed oil, which is especially known for its high concentration of antioxidative Vitamin E. By combining this with other bio-dynamic ingredients from Nikolaihof’s own vineyards, such as saffron or linden blossoms, products for a variety of different skin types and needs have been developed. dieNikolai often uses raw materials, whose positive effects on the skin have long been forgotten or have been replaced by modern synthetic products made in laboratories. Therefore this young cosmetic brand is rediscovering traditional knowledge and transforming it into modern, elegant textures, whilst completely avoiding more exotic raw materials such as palm oil or shea butter. The face care line has recently been extended with one of the world’s first palm-oil-free facial cleansing ranges.
Very few brands in the world can say that all their products meet Demeter’s strict standards, but dieNikolai prides itself on being able to do so. Its founders, Martin Saahs and his schoolfriend Günter Stöffelbauer, want to offer cosmetic products with the smallest possible ecological footprint and bring together the two exciting domains of organic products and luxury cosmetics. The brand’s face, hand and lip care products are currently distributed in organic and cosmetic shops in Austria, Czech Republic and Slovakia.
