The Tigernut (Cyperus esculentus) is a grass plant with edible tubers. This plant has been cultivated since ancient times and tigernuts were already eaten with great pleasure in ancient Egypt. In later times the earth almond came to the Iberian Peninsula and is still cultivated there today.
Tigernuts from Valencia are a traditional product in this Mediterranean area. The popular and refreshing tiger nut milk called Horchata is made from it.
