O.P. Ortofrutticola Jonica Scarl was born in 2005 by the will of 50 farmers of the area of Metaponto, in Apulia, in particular between the towns of Ginosa and Castellaneta, that trust in the cooperation as a vehicle of growing.
In the same year the consortium obtained the recognition of “Producer Organization” from Regione Puglia.
The Organization occupies to farm, to harvest, to pack and to commercialize the shareholders’ products that are cultivate according to The Reg. CE 834/2007 in which is defined the organic farm (the trade mark is JonicaBio).
O.P. Ortofrutticola Jonica is able to ensure the origin and to guarantee the biological nature of the product thanks to frequent and accurate check carried out by an agronomist team. In particular is ensured the traceability of the production by the assignment of a lot that mark indistinctly the farmer and the product from the cultivation to shipment to client, through the entry in the warehouse and through the packaging.
One of the features of O.P. Ortofrutticola Jonica is to have organic products for all the 12 months of the year.
The route of JonicaBio started with few products (cauliflower, fennel, table grapes) but subsequently the Organization has watched with foresight to the market and has betted strongly on a range of 40 products.
The principal customers of the Organization are specialist distributors of the organic market or operators of the large-scale distribution.
The main products of the Consortium are:
Brassicaceae: cauliflower, Romanesco cauliflower, purple cauliflower, etc.
Ombrelliferae: fennel, celery, smooth and curly parsley, dill, etc.
