A delicious and healthy fruit

Nana Néant"- delicious fruit, so the Indians in South America called the Pineapple. Christopher Kolumbus brought her to Spain. Today, the pineapple is grown in many tropical countries. The aromatic fruit contains vitamins from the B Group. As well vitamin A, E and C and numerous minerals. Which is remarkable is his unusually high proportion of the enzyme Bromelin, which can break down protein. It promotes the Digestion, stimulates the circulation, drains and has an anti-inflammatory effect. However only in fresh or gently dried fruits. Pineapple juice and canned pineapple be pasteurized. The heat destroys the enzyme.

Cultivation: Tedious hand work

Our pineapples grow not on plantations, but in small fields. To create them, is a lot of work. Because the traditional axe is mostly the only work device. In one year the seedlings grow well half a meter tall, plants with green-grey, hard and spiky leaves. Evolved from red flowers in the leaf rosettes in four months, the fruits grow and can reach a weight of up to four kilograms. Animal pests of pineapple (except in plantations) make little problems. Between the rows of pineapple, our farmers often cultivate beans, because they nitrogen in the soil and feed humans and animals. On the pineapple field the farmers often grow as well matoke (cooking banana), coffee and cassava bushes. This is not optimal for the pineapple, because they love the sun, but overall, such mixed cultures are more productive. Coffee husks serve as a fertilizer, manure from chickens or cattle, and compost. Because the plants are in flower and grow at different times, the farmer has to check the field every week and harvest the ripe fruit.
