The red berry is also called crawberry or cultured cranberry. Cranberry belongs to the family of the mooreland herbs. Its origin is Northern America and it thrives in the region of the coast. The perspective of the Cranberry flowers evoke the head of a crane. Therefore the name Cranberry was born for this berries. The fruits are mainly used for jam and juices. A high content of vitamin C in the berries support the body's defences, the high amount of potassium regulates the water balance. The berries include a tanning agent, which may act preventive during infections of the urinary tract. Further more they contain red phenolic dyes, which have antioxidative effects.
