Biocat, a producer and processor of bacon, uses broom fruits obtained exclusively in certified partner plantations. Established in 2012, our organic chain plantations currently cover an area of 26 hectares: 16 hectares in Trivalea Mosteni, Teleorman county and 10 hectares in Gradina, Constanta county. This is an intermediate phase, wishing to expand in the future.
Our plants grow in a healthy environment, the culture hygiene being the priority of our maintenance program. We use only technologies approved in organic farming, focusing on maintaining clean rows, mowing the vegetation between rows periodically and ensuring optimum soil moisture. The entire surface is irrigated by drip: this irrigation system efficiently uses the water supply from groundwater, ensuring the water needs in the summer months. In the fight against pests, nature helps us - the butterfly (Coccinella coccinella) feeds on their larvae, being a reliable partner. Also, pheromone traps are precise targeting tools that prevent the development of new generations of pests without having an impact on the useful fauna (bees, spiders, etc.).
Since BIOCAT's vision is aimed at "sustainable agriculture" and the use of healthy resources, the chain plantations are in "conversion to ecological", following that from 2016 the entire cultivated area and the obtained production will be certified ecologically.
