The organic farm Milana Giovanni represents the culmination of the experience of three farming generations.
The first farmer, Milana Salvatore, was a pioneer who developed trade in carrots from his little town Ispica, near Ragusa, perfect example of the Mediterranean agro-alimentary tradition.
Today the tradition continues with his son, Milana Giovanni, who specializes in this agribusiness with the help of his wife Concetta and his three sons, Salvatore, Daniela and Ignazio.
Giovanni Milana is able to cultivate more than 350 hectares of organic vegetables all-year round, in open fields or/and in greenhouses.
The internal organisation and the structure is based on the “masseria Iblea” (the typical old Sicilian farm): houses, packaging, production and marketing methods develop from the same place, the farm seat.
The company’s main objective is to pay attention to customers’ needs; always directed to the evolution of the agricultural sector and to the improvement within the farm.
In fact, in 2000 a new refrigerated warehouse, used for packing and to stock fresh fruits and vegetables, was built.
The farm produces round tomatoes, cherry and mini plum tomatoes, zucchini, peppers, cucumbers, aubergines, watermelons and melons thanks to its 400.000 square meters of greenhouses.
Our open field products count with zucchini, fennel, broccoli, cauliflowers, artichokes, potatoes and the famous new carrot of Ispica.
In compliance with European organic standards, the products are strictly cultivated following rigorous organic principles, using soil that comes partly from the farm itself.
Today 95% of our products is packed and sold to the foreign large-scale retail market; only 5% is packed for the Italian market.
The location of our farm contributes to the authenticity of our products: Ispica is situated at the South-East point of Sicily, between two seas, close to the Hyblean plateau, far away from industrial factories, in an ideal climate.
Our farm, very close to Cava d’Ispica, a characteristic calcareous valley, is only 30 Km far from Ragusa and 56km from Syracuse. The whole family Milana is delighted to invite and host sector technicians or those who would like to discover our agriculture and at the same time tour through the Mediterranean history.
