PRONATEC – the Organic Pioneer
To introduce a healthy, teeth-friendly sugar to Europe – that was Albert Yersin’s motivation when he founded PRONATEC AG in 1976. The basis was formed by long-term studies of Swiss paediatrician Dr. Max-Henry Béguin, which prove that children consistently fed with whole cane sugar hardly suffer from tooth decay. Extensive research led to the discovery of a drying process with which PRONATEC produced the first whole cane sugar in Switzerland. It was successfully launched on the market with the brand name Sucanat. It wasn’t long before the first chocolate was produced, which was only sweetened with whole cane sugar. Thanks to increasing sales volumes, various production projects were able to be developed in Latin America. PRONATEC then launched the first organic raw cane sugar in the world, Syramena.
Equipped with valuable know-how on organically certified sugar and cocoa, PRONATEC AG was able to launch the first organic and Fair Trade Certified chocolate – “Made in Switzerland” of course. Further innovations in the private label product area followed as did new organic raw materials such as almonds, hazelnuts, vanilla, cinnamon and other spices.
The sale of exquisitely tasting raw materials and the consistent focus on healthy food and our pioneering spirit continue to be our most important driving forces to this day. Fair treatment of customers, producers, business partners, the community and the environment form the backbone for being able to offer the best organic raw materials. Applying the results shows: hundreds of processing plants and tens of thousands of consumers in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia benefit daily from our 40 years of experience with organic food.
