Barnhouse, the organic pioneers: from small Krunchy baker to market leader
Two individuals with pioneering spirit, an oven and a bicycle – Barnhouse’s history of success began with these “ingredients” back in 1979. In the kitchen of their Munich home, Neil Reen and Sina Nagl baked the world’s first organic crunchy muesli: Krunchy. The new muesli was mainly delivered to Munich’s handful of organic stores by bike. Today, the pioneering organic company produces Krunchy muesli, cereal bars and other breakfast cereals in the Bavarian town of Mühldorf am Inn – all 100% organic and without any additives. Barnhouse is an independent, owner-managed business and one of Germany’s few genuinely organic manufacturers.
Even after 40 years, Barnhouse is still an owner-managed family business, independent and one of the few true organic producers in Germany. Ecological and social commitment - especially in the home region - are an integral part of the responsible corporate culture. Thus, the company cooperates with currently 46 organic farmers from the region who cultivate oats and spelt.
