This product is typical from the region of Liège (Belgium). It was invented when the sugar was rare because the manufacturing of syrup was traditionally a good way to have sugar all year long. Its production requires a real home-made know-how which is passed on from generation to generation. All the art lies in the choice of good moment to stop the cooking. This one lasts more than a day and the success of the production takes place by a few minutes!
Fruits are cultivated in Belgium and are transformed by a workshop of the Country of Herve according to the traditional recipe: our syrup contains only pears (80 %) and apples (20 %). The apple gives the slightly acid taste and the texture of the product. The pear brings its sweetness.
This traditional regional product is ideal on a sandwich of fresh bread or toast as well as to prepare sauces.
