Algarrobos Organicos

Native from the Peruvian Amazon. It grows around the basin of the rivers Nanay, Ucayali, Marañon and Tigre.

Camu Camu is a native shrub from the Amazon that grows mainly in Peru, Colombia, Brazil and Venezuela. Their natural habitat are the alluvial soils. It grows in wild areas such as the side of rivers, lakes and streams.

Lucuma has been considered as the delicacy of the Incas. This fruit is known in our country as a flag product. It has been reflected by our ancestors in different ceramics and paintings.

This product grows between the coast and the Andean Region of Peru. Our lucuma comes from the Andean Region of Piura, located at 2000 masl. We work with an association of 200 small producers for the natural gathering of this product, being the first project of this kind in Peru.

Maca has been consumed for ages in central region of the Andes. It had a big recognition since the pre-Incan age, being considered as a gift from the gods and offered to them in many of their ceremonies. The Incas recognized its benefits, using it to improve the physical and mental performance.

Maca is a very special root that can adapt the field on its own. It is one of the few plants that can grow in low temperatures, enduring the difficult weather of the Andes, being cultivated between 3800-4200 masl. It resists the plateau plagues and diseases.

Its name remounts to the colonial age. Spanish people saw in this tree -known as “Tacco”- in Quechua, some qualities are similar to the european carob, which it is believed to have been introduced by the Arabians. Nowadays, it is known that mesquite was used in prehispanic times, thanks to the Antonio Raimondi findings.

This specie is collected on the north coast of Peru, being Piura an area with a vast field extension. Algarrobos Organicos works hand by hand with the “Ignacio Távara Pasapera” Farmers Community, receiving certification for more than 100 hectares of the 1000 that are under the Forest Management Plan, approved by the Technical Forest Administration of Piura.

Algarrobos Organicos del Peru works the cacao crops with farmers of the Yanesha Communities of Peru, found in the region of Pasco, in the Central Amazon. This crop is worked under a Nature Consortium agroforestry system, preparing the fields with organic material, putting seeds of many fruits, such as banana, yucca, pituco, papaya and pacay.
