Everyone knows the impact of food that lasts longer than its taste. You may know the calming effect of cream, or how coffee makes you feel more awake. On closer observation, it turns out that staple foods and beverages also affect our physical and mental state. The emotional and bodily sensations induced by food can be described as the impact behind the taste.

Knowledge about food induced emotions grows dynamically. Our method of evaluation is based on current research results.

The Wirksensorik GmbH was founded at the beginning of 2016. We offer an empathic food-testing service based on the newest scientific findings. Our aim is to improve food quality. For that purpose we offer different services. (The German company’s name is made up of the words Wirkung (=effect) and Sensorik (=sensory analyses).

Expert test: Evaluation of raw and processed food by trained observers (analog to descriptive sensory analyses): A panel of 6-10 people who are trained in the description of emotional and physical effects from food evaluates your samples with the EmpathicFoodTest. The results are analysed statistically and supplemented by qualitative analyses of the free description of the product.

Consumer test: Evaluation of raw and processed food by untrained consumers (analog to sensory consumer tests): At least 60 untrained consumers evaluate the emotional and physical effects of your sample with the EmpathicFoodTest. The results are analysed statistically and supplemented by qualitative analyses of the free description of the product.

Training:We offer training in the empathic observation of emotional and physical food effects for you and your employees.

Consulting: (e.g. product development and panel recruitment)

Presentations/Lectures: We will inform you about empathic food testing.

What is the EmpathicFoodTest? 12 bilateral questions concerning the emotional and physical impact of food are asked in the EmpathicFoodTest, according of Geier et al. (2016). A body scan analogue to an element of the concept of mindfulness stress reduction is part of the Empathic Food Test, which asks about several attributes, including awake/tired, relaxed/nervous, or warm/cold.
