National International Commercial Enterprise (NICE) is one of the leading tea manufacturing companies in Myanmar. The company was founded by H.H Princess Taw Phayagalay (great grandson of King Thibaw) in 1993 with the objective to generate income for the poor. His empathic leadership is still echoing as the grandson of Prince Taw Phayagalay nowadays leads the company.
NICE tea production is planned to grow sharply between 2015-2020 as the company cooperates in regional development projects in Kachin State, Shan State and Chin State. An important element of these projects is to support farmers in the substitution of opium poppy crops for better alternatives. Only in Kachin State, NICE can substitute 1,800 hectare of opium poppy production with tea plantations. This will result in improved incomes for 1,000-1,500 farmer’s families.
Nice facts about NICE:
- 100,000 kg of tea leaves processed every year.
- Offering work to 73 employees
- Exporting to Singapore, France and Australia.
- Increasing turnover by about 12% in the past few years.
