Azienda Agraria Duca Carlo Guarini from Scorrano (Lecce)-Italy
The Azienda Agraria Duca Carlo Guarini, a long standing viniculture reality from Salento, always devoted to recover and enhance the native grapes is pleased to present its organic certified wines. Vigne Vecchie, Natívo, Pìutri, Malìa Rosa e Campo di Mare are varietal wines, innovative and organic certified by Codex. Behind a glass of wine there is always a world of human experiences, the most different ones, and behind a glass of a Guarini wine, there is a family with 900 years of history, expression of the territory. A world of men and women who, with their hard work, defend the viticultural heritage of Salento, that of Negroamaro, Primitivo and Malvasia.
Today the Guarinis still owns masserie and cultivates estates for more than 700 hectares. The vineyards, which extend for 70 hectares, are all located in the Pìutri estate, between Brindisi and Lecce, in the area of the municipality of Torchiarolo. In Scorrano, at about 30 kilometers far from Lecce, it is possible to taste excellent wines in the small cozy rooms with fireplace in winter, or in the shade of the pergola, in a garden that scents of oranges, in summer. The hosts will guide visitors to the places where wine is made: starting from the ancient barrique cellar built inside a subterranean olive mill from the sixteenth century, where wines are left to rest in large and small oak casks, and bottles from different vintages are kept. For the Guarinis being winemakers means having a heritage to protect, a terroir to develop and a culture to share. That is how the classics wines are produced, from native grapes of Salento, vinified in red, in rosé and white. A wide range of wines produced with expertise, always respecting the environment and the consumers. The vineyards are cultivated directly, without using chemicals, with passion and endeavor to convey the right feelings. To be always up to date, the company has renewed the labels of the native grapes wines, now showing for the first time, on the label, the “identity card”, with the indication of the vineyard, the soil, and the yield per hectare. There is also the historic line, the wines telling the history of the ancestors, of the centuries passed as winemakers and the prestigious personalities of the past. Like our Murà, Sauvignon blanc, dedicated to Joachim Murà, son in law of Napoleon Bonaparte and King of Naples, who in the ’800, during a visit in Lecce, engraved his name the Italian way on a mirror in the Guarini Palace. Or Boemondo, a high quality Primitivo taking its name from Bohemond Hauteville prince of Taranto, son of Robert the Guiscard, conqueror of Puglia, who was companion of Ruggero Guarini during the first Crusade. And then the wines of the line ’900- 900 Primitivo and 900 Sauvignon, created in 2004 to celebrate the 900 years as winemakers and remember the ancestor Accardo Guarini, Count of Valesio, who, in 1114 already, was cultivating his vineyards on the Pìutri Estate, between Lecce and Brindisi. But that is not all, there is the unexpected Piccolebolle, the first spumante wine obtained from negroamaro grapes, using the Martinotti method and entirely made in the company winery in Scorrano, 30 km from Lecce. It is the result of a specific cultivation technique and a skillful winemaking, coordinated by the capable enologist Giuseppe Pizzolante Leuzzi.
