Villa Patrizia was founded in the late 60's by the intuition of Romeo Bruni, a carpenter with the passion for winemaking, who together with his wife Mariadecided to leave a comfortable job and to get back to the countryside by betting everything on a very interesting area, till that moment linked more with the world of sheep-farming than vine growing. During the first years they gained experience by producing basically cask-wine. You must consider that in those years in Maremmapeople thought that "the good wine was not in bottle" (Romeo’s own word!). In the mid-'80s, the company made the leap as well as it started to bottle the wine. Customers were enthusiastic and Romeo personally delivered "van" of wine driving the inseparable Ford Transit. In the early 90's two of Romeo and Maria's children,Maurizio e Patrizia, joined the company, and the winery was also launched on the foreign market by exporting across Europe, USA, Japan, New Zealand. Meanwhile the Sciamareti won the first prize as the best white wine from Tuscany's Maremma; the Orto di Boccio drew the crowds in Washington DC where a popular restaurant required Romeo's signed labels. That's why the company decided to invest in the DOCG Morellino di Scansano buying 4 hectars of vineyard in the locality of Piandorneta, just 7 km far from the farm. The 2000s are those of the global downturn after 9 /11, but others vineyard are implanted in Villa Patrizia and some of the oldest one are renovated. In recent years the company collaborates with the prestigious Biodinamyc enologist Luca d'Attoma and in 2007 converted vineyards and olives to the organic agricolture. Finally, in 2009 the latest entry was Romeo’s grandson Alessio, agronomist graduated in Florence.
Today the company covers a total of 25 hectares; 70% of vineyards (10 hectars) are located in the district of Roccalbegna. Villa Patrizia only works with its own grapes and produces about 70,000 bottles between Morellino, IGT Toscana (Bianco, Rosato, Rosso) and Montecucco. The company also produces a small amount of organic olive oil .
