From infant formula, baby porridges, baby jars and puréed fruit and vegetables in pouches to baby weaning oil, teas and snacks: Holle offers more than 70 different Demeter-labelled baby food products for new parents and their babies – in more than 40 countries worldwide. The secret of success: Ever since its foundation in 1933 Holle has produced its foodstuffs according to the principles of anthroposophic nutrition, completely abstaining from chemical processing and preservatives. Founded as a pioneer of biodynamic food, Holle was one of the first Demeter-certified companies. Today, Holle is the leading manufacturer of biodynamic baby food. The company headquarters are situated in the border area between Germany and Switzerland in Riehen/Basel (Switzerland).
Holle is committed to sustainable business practices – from sourcing raw materials to the finished product. All our raw materials are from organic or biodynamic sources. Pesticides and chemical/synthetic fertilisers are taboo. We use regional ingredients wherever possible. Our production facilities comply with the very latest technology and are ISO-certified. We perform quality controls throughout the entire manufacturing process, drawing on cutting-edge analytical techniques that are always based on the latest scientific research. This also increases the transparency of the production chain.
The expectations on quality are nowhere as high as in the production of baby food. In order to meet these special requirements, we have established long-term and close relationships with our raw material suppliers and production partners. This results in excellent transparency and mutual trust, and it ensures that we can depend on the availability of the very highest-quality ingredients for our baby food. We have direct contact with the Demeter dairy and the Demeter farmers’ cooperative that produce the milk for our infant formula. This way, we can stay up to date with the requirements of all those involved and actively engage in the dialogue between the cooperative and dairy farmers. For the cereals that we use for our baby food, we have been working with one of the leading mills in the European organic industry for almost 20 years now. Their employees have direct contact with the cereal growers and ensure that the first quality checks are done while the cereals are still in the field. In terms of fruit, our focus is on home-grown varieties. We make sure that we keep food miles to a minimum – from the field to the bottling plant.
For us at Holle, this is what matters most: We take the confidence that parents show us when buying our baby food very seriously, and we want to maintain this trust by keeping our close connection to biodynamic farming and our trusting relationships with our partners.
