Galaxy Rice operates as private limited company. The company has been in business since 2001. Galaxy Rice is inherently a paddy milling and rice processing company. the mills is an ex Government property which was privatized in the 90s and the current owners bought this through the privatization commission.
The company has grown from sales of Rs50m in 2002 to over Rs4bn. This has been led by investment in infrastructure, Human resource and a focus on quality. The milling capacity of the mill is appx 70000mt annually on paddy basis to appx 35000 rice basis and a separate capacity 20000mt annually rice to rice processing.
The products supplied are all kinds of Basmati and non-Basmati rice, parboiled and white. Most of our export is in the form of Brown rice, which is a semi-finished product. This rice is polished to white rice and packed by importers for own brands and private label brands for the large retailers, e.g Tesco, Sainsbury, Asda, Marks & Spencer etc.
The company’s main buyers are European multinational companies that are importers and millers of commodities who supply to supermarkets. These include Herba Rice, Soufflet, Westmill Foods and Tilda etc. These are all, A rated companies with big and regular buying from Pakistan and India. The quality requirements for Brown rice exports are technical and stringent. These requirements create a certain barrier to entry for others. We have built up expertise in these requirements within this particular segment. This ensures regular demand and return business. We have also deepened relationship with exiting customers by adding more products, such as parboiled brown or organic rice. We are also one of the largest and only a few organic Basmati rice suppliers from Pakistan.
Galaxy Rice is certified organic Growers, Millers, Processor & Exporters since 2011. Galaxy Rice is certified under BRC and Sedex.
The growth in the business over the last 17 years has been driven and sustained by investing in infrastructure. We have always tried to invest in the latest technology to take advantage of efficiency gains and to invest for the long term. Last year a 12mt/hr Buhler plant was commissioned. This plant produces finished rice from raw paddy in a single process, which again gives us cost savings and efficiency benefits in terms of higher yields. This plant is the state of the art PLC controlled which allows optimization of milling.
