From the Indian valleys of the Dehradun in the northern state of Uttarakhand, comes one of the classic varieties of basmati rice. Here in fact, for hundreds of years, thanks to the cool climate of the fertile valleys between the Himalayas and the Ganges, is produced rice that is appreciated throughout the world for its particular organoleptic qualities.
The Basmati brown rice which is distributed by LiberoMondo is grown by farmers who are members of Navdanya, which is an organization committed to the protection of biodiversity founded in 1987 by the scientist and environmental activist Vandana Shiva. Navdanya (which in Hindi means "nine seeds"), is constantly working to protect biological and ecological diversity, and circulating the principles of organic agriculture. In over twenty-five years Navdanya has been coordinating a network of roughly seventy thousand farmers, in various regions of India, and has established 56 seed banks (where, among other things, they have preserved more than three thousand varieties of rice).
The Basmati organic brown rice that we offers is characterized by long, narrow beans that are fragrant, scented and with an intense aroma and an unmistakable hint of sandalwood. Our rice is only partially glazed: this ensures a better and longer shelf life of the nutritional properties and it enhances the aromatic features. The entire quality chain is directly supervised by LiberoMondo, which provides the vacuum packaging of food products in its own manufacturing plant.
